10 Biology Science Facts

It’s Sunday! I thought that today I would research some interesting biology facts. Some you may already know, some you may think to yourself ‘huh’ and others you might think NO  WAY! I certainly felt this way with one fact, you can probably guess which one as you too may well have the same reaction. 

  1. The first mammal to be clone was ‘Dolly the sheep’. Dolly was born on 5th July 1996 in Scotland. She sadly died in 2003 but did have 6 lambs over that course of time. 
  2. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. The left side of your brain controls the right side of your body.
  3. Ever wondered, Why is our blood red? Our red blood cells contain a molecule called haemoglobin, which is made up of 4 groups. Our blood is red because of these group of haemoglobin. (Medicalnewstoday.com) 
  4. The largest organ of the human body is our skin. 
  5. The largest flower in the world is a ‘Rafflesia Arnoldi’. The biggest one on record grew to 106.7cm and weighed 24LBS. 
  6. The human brain stops growing when you turn 18 years old. 
  7. A human heart can beat fast enough to squirt blood up to 30 feet away. 
  8. Starfish don’t have brains. 
  9. Apparently, if you rub an onion against your foot, you will be able to taste it in 30-60 minutes. It also apparently works with garlic too!
  10. There are said to be 35,000 to 40,000 different types of spiders in the world. Yikes!
